One of the more common treatment options among our adult and teenager patients is Invisalign clear aligners. Whether it’s for the discreet nature of the treatment or the ability to remove them as needed when eating, brushing or taking pictures, it’s one of the most popular treatment options.
If you have considered Invisalign and wonder what treatment is like, here are some things to expect during your first week as an Invisalign wearer.
It Will Take You Time to Adjust to Wearing Aligners
Invisalign aligners are designed to be worn for 20 – 22 hours each day. When you first start wearing the aligners, you may notice that your speech is slightly affected when you try and say certain words or you might find you speak with a slight lisp. This is nothing to worry about, as you just need to practice talking or singing to get used to having the aligners in your mouth.
You Will Feel Some Discomfort
During the first week of your Invisalign treatment, you can expect to feel some discomfort as you get used to wearing the aligners. It can feel odd having the aligners on your teeth at first, but once you get used to wearing them, this feeling will subside as will the initial discomfort.
Inserting & Removing Invisalign
At first, you may find it challenging to put your aligners in and take them out, but after the first week, you should notice that your aligners are easier to put in and take out as they have started to move your teeth just as they were designed to do. As you progress through treatment, putting your aligners in and taking them out when eating and when cleaning your teeth will be easy as you’ll be very used to it.
You Must Get Into the Routine of Cleaning Your Aligners
It’s important to keep your aligners fresh and clean. Get into the habit right away of brushing your aligners gently and rinsing them when you are brushing & flossing your teeth. This will make keeping your aligners clean just a part of your daily oral hygiene routine.
